Applied Sales and Marketing for Media & Photography Students
English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College is a vibrant specialist arts school and offers its students not only a wide range of ‘A’ level subjects but also many applied business courses and imaginative means to support them.
Students studying Media and Photograhy ‘A’ level were producing great ideas within their course work, but were just lacking the knowledge of how to commercialise those ideas.
Linda Ward, Head of Enterprise, approached Giant Impact to help bridge this knowledge gap between theory and practice for her students. Giant Impact has many years of practical experience developing and marketing products in diverse markets from confectionery to cosmetics and knows the processes involved intimately.
Giant Impact adapted the Practical Sales & Marketing Programme to meet Linda’s requirements and delivered a hugely successful programme for the Media students in the morning and Photograhy students in the afternoon.

Students were introduced to the basics of applied marketing and selling and were set an ID Photoluggage design challenge, to be completed and presented within tight deadlines using key marketing principles. Teams used digital cameras and computers equipped with design and presentation packages to complete their commercialised solutions. Both events encouraged active teamworking, communication and problem solving skills with the students.
Students displayed an enviable grasp of the digital resources on offer and were able to create impressive design solutions with a commercial edge. The programme received a 92% satisfaction rating from students together with very positive comments about the impact the programme had had on them.
Giant Impact has worked with the Sixth Form for many years through the provision of a Sixth Form Team building & Gelling event held at the start of the new academic year.
The English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College is an expanding 11-18 mixed voluntary aided Catholic High School with an excellent reputation. There are 1590 students on roll including 300 in the Sixth Form. The school serves the whole of Hartlepool LA, and has a genuinely comprehensive intake which is one of the great strengths of the school.
