Options & Motivation – KS 3 & 4
A lively interactive work-related programme specifically designed for Year 9 students to highlight the importance of the options process and to help them make their option choices.
The programme focus is on making the right career choices, exploring different types of jobs, the links to earnings and the skills required for work in general.
The programme explores the market for jobs and the knowledge, skills and essential attitude needed to be successful. Relevant, high quality audio visual material is animated by personal work experiences of working professionals.
If additional local business people/celebrities are available they can be introduced to programmes tailored for each school.
Students work in non friendship teams to develop communication, problems solving and collaborative working skills.
This programme will contribute to the development of the six personal, learning and thinking skills (PLTS) so as to meet the three national curriculum aims of becoming
(1)successful learners,
(2)confident individuals and
(3)responsible citizens.
Our programme will give your students:
- an introduction to the world of work and career opportunities
- an appreciation of what jobs pay and the link to educational attainment
- a reason to take their options choices seriously and to take personal responsibility for it
- the experience of enterprise-based challenges to reinforce key life skills of problem solving, team working & communication
Additionally, your students will learn:
- what qualities employers really value in their staff
- the importance of having a positive attitude
- why taking responsibility for personal development will help prepare students for the world of work
Overall the programme involves students:
- communicating and working together collaboratively in non-friendship teams, solving problems and completing practical team challenges
- often developing new friendships and a greater respect for the hidden talents of other team members
