Schools Programmes : Study For Work

Overview

Getting students to want to study is an attitude challenge for many schools, Study for Work offers support to teachers trying to change attitudes by illustrating the reasons why it is important for students to take personal responsibility for their own learning and development. Through dynamic illustration, a clear and powerful link is made to the rewards that can flow from getting a better job - not just higher earnings, but also a happier, more fulfilled life through greater choice. Study for Work introduces the concepts of personal vision, personal leadership & personal management which are then related into personal learning and study. Different learning styles are introduced and students encourage to find out what ones they prefer to adopt. Elements of a personal study strategy are introduced and cover topics including listening in class, the importance of repetition with illustrations from brand name recognition and advertising, managing time to be effective at studying and the importance of changing their paradigm to teach newly remembered material. VAK learning styles are illustrated through lively team challenges and engaging audio visual material. Other topics covered include the physiology of the brain, long and short term memory, recall and recognition, the ‘forgetting curve’ and active listening.
