Schools Programmes : Voice Management
Voice Management for Teachers
Our voice management programmes are designed for teachers but are applicable to anybody who uses their voice for their job.
Most teachers only seek help when they have taken time off work and may be on long term sick leave because of their voice. Rehabilitation of the voice takes longer because the problems are long-standing. Our programme will show you how to avoid this happening to you.
All programmes are delivered by a specialist Speech and Language Therapist in Voice with 20 years experience. She sees many teachers with voice problems in her caseload and views voice care as an essential requirement for teachers.
Our Voice Care Programme will:
- give you a good understanding of your voice
- explain how you can avoid voice difficulties when teaching
- clarify the basics of good voice use and what constitutes ‘vocal misuse’
- help you improve vocal stamina and quality
We will provide:
- practical suggestions to adapt the classroom, your teaching and your voice to cope with the vocal demands of your job
- strategies for when your voice is struggling
- guidance on how to recognise warning signs
- information to seek further help for your voice
You will learn how and why stress affects your voice and specific techniques to reduce muscle tension especially around the larynx. Different approaches to stress management will be covered including being assertive about your voice and needs, managing anger and identifying patterns of behaviour that cause you problems.
During the workshop you will complete a personal voice questionnaire, applying the information given to your voice. This provides you with a long term plan to resolve problems and build confidence in your voice.
Other programmes include Voice Stress and Voice Projection and we can also create hybrid programmes to suit your specific needs.
